Mole Monitoring| Initial Consultation | Follow
Up Consultations| Perth Mole Clinic utilises the MoleTrak computerised mole monitoring system to monitor patients skin. This system enables the doctor to compare images over time, at 30X magnification and under polarised light. The doctor stores any number of mole records for a patient and compares any past images of the mole to the current image. This is very important as one of the earliest signs of the presence of skin cancer is changes within the lesion including shape, size, and colour.
Initial ConsultationDuring your initial consultation your doctor will create your personal mole monitoring record which will include your medicare number (so please remember to bring your medicare card). Your moles are examined using the MoleTrak system and your doctor will explain the significant characteristics of the magnified mole images to you. Prominent moles will be recorded in your patient record so that these moles can be monitored carefully over time. Any treatments can also be administered by your doctor if any moles require immediate attention. Most people only require an annual check-up consultation, however your doctor may wish to monitor your moles more closely if clinically required.
As it is possible to develop serious skin cancers in a short period of time, your doctor will take the
time to explain the features and warning signs of skin cancer.
Follow Up ConsultationYou will receive an automatic recall letter reminding you when your next Mole check-up is due. If you notice any changes in a mole between
these scheduled visits you should contact the Perth Mole Clinic immediately for a check-up examination. During your follow-up consultations, your doctor is able to compare past images of each prominent mole that was previously recorded and look for changes in the mole's size, shape and pigment. These changes are the best indication of the presence of skin cancer. Any new moles can be assessed and added to your record during these follow-up examinations.
